Shrieve Announces Internship and Research Sponsorship Opportunity

Shrieve has announced that Lily Coombes, a Marine Biology undergraduate with a passion for environmental damage remediation and the mitigation of industrial impacts on marine ecosystems will join the company’s Specialities Division (SCP) for a 13-week period, working on marine-related projects. Shrieve will also sponsor Lily for an additional 32-week research placement focused on an environmentally significant project, reflecting commitment to environmental sustainability and support for academic research.

Internship at SCP Lab

From May 5, 2025, to August 5, 2025, Lily will be based at our Shrieve SCP lab, working on a project defined by Shrieve team, Liz Dixon, Joe Karnaz, and Troy Farone. This project will be highly product-specific and customer-focused, aiming to generate data that supports the business development of Shrieve technology in marine environments. One key area of focus will be the development of biodegradable PAG hydraulic fluids for marine applications. This research is vital for our Enbio® marine sales and the overall push towards environmentally friendly solutions in the marine industry.

Dr Liz Dixon, Shrieve Technical Director EMEA, stated, “We are very much looking forward to Lily joining our team. Her enthusiasm for marine biology and environmental protection aligns perfectly with Shrieve’s commitment to sustainability. Her work will be crucial in advancing our product development in a way that supports both our business and the environment.”

Coral Research Sponsorship

In addition to her internship, Shrieve is sponsoring Lily’s research placement at the Future Oceans Foundation in the UK from September 2024, to April 2025. Future Oceans Foundation is a not-for-profit organization and the 32-week project, titled “Captive Spawning Coral Research,” aims to optimize coral spawning in captivity to repair coral reef damage and enhance biodiversity, which is critical for the future health of our coral reefs.

Rob Peck, who leads the Coral Research Project, said, “Shrieve’s sponsorship is instrumental in advancing our research on coral spawning. By supporting students like Lily, we can make significant strides in our mission to restore and protect marine ecosystems. This partnership demonstrates Shrieve’s dedication to environmental stewardship.”

Environmental Commitment and Industry Impact

Shrieve’s portfolio includes a range of products that support the industry’s transition toward technologies that mitigate environmental impacts. Our HVACR lubricants for mobile and stationary systems, as well as lubricants for ground and air source heating systems, help reduce reliance on fossil fuels and minimize ozone depletion.

Furthermore, our Ecologi program exemplifies our dedication to environmental sustainability. By investing in academic research that does not directly benefit our profitability, we aim to demonstrate to the industry and our key partners that we are serious about our environmental responsibilities. This sponsorship of Lily’s coral research is a prime example of our commitment.

Liz Dixon added, “This initiative not only supports a promising young scientist but also aligns with our strategic goals of fostering innovation and environmental sustainability. By backing projects that address critical environmental challenges, we hope to inspire similar commitments across the industry.”
